TAFE INSTITUTES VIC

If you are thinking about doing some kind of study or training, the best place to start is to find out about all your options. There are three main types of education and training offered in Victoria.

VET is education and training (excluding higher education) that gives people work-related knowledge and skills. You can undertake vocational educational and training as part of an apprenticeship or traineeship, at school, or as part of an employment program.

  • Apprenticeships and traineeships provide on-the-job and off-the-job training in a particular industry.
  • VET in schools is undertaken as part of the Victorian Certificate of Education ( VCE) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning ( VCAL).
  • Employment programs are offered by the State and Federal governments to help you if you are looking for a job.
  • Training organisations provide courses from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma levels.

Adult and Community Education (ACE)

ACE providers offer a wide variety of courses, including informal (non-accredited) and formal (accredited) programs. You can do courses to help you get work, change jobs or return to work, computer and Internet courses, professional development courses and much more.

The Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE ) Board website has more information about courses and course providers.

Higher Education

In Victoria, nine public universities and more than 40 private providers provide higher education at two levels: undergraduate and postgraduate.

The Higher Education website has information on higher education institutions and courses.
